OH TO BE A CHILD AT CHRISTMAS
It’s a story as old as time that for believers is as true as it can be. Rushed with Adrenalin, children on this fabled night—excited and just a little afraid—are secretly hoping for a glimpse of St. Nicholas at work. As sure as the sun will rise in the morning, tonight children know that Santa will soon be on his way to Bay Point.
And so it is that parents, grandparents and children have had much to do in preparation for his visit. As anticipation builds and bedtime nears, children delight in hearing that Santa Claus has left the North Pole in a sled loaded with gifts and powered by 8 tiny reindeer.
Eager boys and girls anxiously await a Christmas morning where gifts piled high by the delightful and mysterious Mr. Claus are theirs to open. Outside, the night is crisp, as Jack Frost too anticipates Santa’s sleigh ride. Inside, holiday music fills the air and children are busy placing special decorations in their appropriate places. Preparation for Santa’s visit this very Christmas Eve is underway and everything must be perfect.
Before retiring on this magical night, children have one more very special duty. They must leave a treat in a conspicuous spot for Santa. Consumption, of course, is proof positive of his visit. Coaxed into bed after this final act, children of all ages toss relentlessly until at last exhaustion turns to sleep.
Dreams, too, on this special night bring Bay Point children to a whole new world full of wondrous entertainment and magical excitement. Unbeknownst to adults, spirits of Christmas Eve delight in entertaining children who, lacking in patience, are anxiously awaiting the rooftop landing of a sleigh, eight tiny reindeer, and a little ole driver who is by all accounts lively and quick. Magically on this dark sacred night, as imagination turns into dreams, Christmas angels escort the slumbering juveniles to a dreamland theater where they are delighted and entertained by Christmas spirits who are both friendly and elusive, like wisps of smoke rising from the dark, and exciting their audience with colorful yet unrehearsed dances. Above, eagles soar with the doves, offering the promise of peace and good will. It is this nocturnal magic that makes children’s dreams come alive and the night’s passage swift.
Before dawn’s arrival, rubbing sleep-sealed eyes, last night’s anxious, excited and Adrenalin charged children may at first be reluctant to leave the comfort of their warm and cozy beds—beds that for one special night played host to an array of delightful spirits who dwell in a now rapidly fading but enchanted land of dreams.
But just as flowers covered by a late spring snow unrelentingly grow and bloom, a visit by Santa with a slew of gifts is destined to draw children early from their slumber. As dawn arrives and dreamland’s final curtain descends, awakening children will be renewed with joyous holiday spirit and excitement.
It is after all . . . Christmas morning in Bay Point!
